The Salvation Army Launches Annual Coats for Kids Drive

BLOOMINGTON - The Salvation Army is taking action to keep the community warm this winter.
BLOOMINGTON - The Salvation Army is reaching out to the community through its annual "Coats for Kids" drive.

The program accepts donations of gently used or new winter apparel through the end of January.

Organizers say the need is especially great this year.

Many people have already stopped in to pickup clothing.

Hats, scarves, mittens and even shoes are also being accepted.

Items can be dropped off at the Salvation Army at 611 West Washington Street or at various locations around town.

"Our goal is to make sure people are warm this winter,” said Development Director Aly Wrezinski.  “We're supposed to have a particularly harsh one I hear and we do distribute between 600 to 700 coats a year and we anticipate close to 700."

The Salvation Army is also accepting coats for adults.
