Thome hits home run for tornado relief

Jim Thome is donating $100,000 to help rebuild Washington, which was devastated by the November 17th tornado.

CHICAGO - A former Chicago White Sox star is donating $100,000 to help rebuild Washington, which was devastated by the November 17th tornado.

Jim Thome is a native of Bartonville and has family who live in Washington.

Thome is now an assistant to the White Sox general manager Rick Hahn.

Four of Thome's former teams are helping with contributions. Along with the White Sox, the Cleveland Indians, Philadelphia Phillies and Minnesota Twins have pledged to help.

The White Sox have also said it will host a youth sports event in Washington next spring.
