PEORIA - Local doctors are looking for ways to keep kids healthy, and a new grant will help.
Childhood obesity is a target for researchers at the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Peoria. The American Cancer Society is giving a $250,000 to fund a new project. The study aims to motivate families toward healthier choices.
It examines the impact of effective communication between doctors and patients on a kid's desire to stay healthy.
More than 36 percent of Peoria-area children and adolescents are overweight. That's above the national average. The grant will last for two years.
