Veterans Honored at Special Breakfast

A way to thank them for their service
PEORIA HEIGHTS – Dozens of area veterans sat down to a free meal Saturday morning as others honored the sacrifice they’ve made in serving their country.

State Representative Jehan Gordon-Booth hosted her third annual Veterans Day Breakfast to honor the hometown heroes. The event relies on the help of community volunteers who spent the morning serving up pancakes, coffee, and juice.

Service members said they appreciated the honor and were thankful their sacrifices are being remembered.

"You get to see the history of all the veterans from back in WWII all the way up to now it's very interesting," said Tyrone Allen, who fought in Korea.

WMBD's own Bob Larson and Maria Chandler were also there to honor veterans' contributions as "celebrity servers." The anchor duo served up pancakes and sausages all morning.
