Volunteers Bring Operation Santa Into Full Swing

They're taking action to ship 20,000 goodie-filled handmade stockings to troops overseas.
BLOOMINGON - Volunteers were hard at work in Bloomington, Saturday preparing to give United States soldiers a gift of home this holiday season.

They're taking action to ship 20,000 goodie-filled handmade stockings to troops overseas. For hours volunteers packed each individual sock with treats like Girl Scout Cookies, beef jerky, and candy.

Each stocking is also filled with everyday necessities, including a pair of white socks and of course, a handwritten holiday card.

Volunteers say the time and attention it takes to give each soldier a piece of home is worth it and thanking them for freedom is priceless.

"There were six soldiers from ft. Campbell and ft. Knox and three of them came up to us and said they got stockings last year when they were deployed, that just makes it all worthwhile," said Operation Santa President, Sharon McCauley.

All stockings will be shipped by Thanksgiving. To make that happen, the organization needs your help to stuff the socks with items. Call 309-692-4008 to lend a hand.
