Volunteers Needed For Special Olympics Bowling Tournament

Volunteers needed to help athletes bowl for gold.
PEORIA – The Special Olympics Illinois East Central Sectional Bowling tournament is supposed to take place on Saturday, but the organization says it’s still looking for volunteers.

More than 200 athletes will bowl for gold on Saturday at Landmark Lanes in Peoria. About 50 more people are needed to help on the lanes serve lunch and present awards. Volunteer Ron Bellinger said it's a way to give back, but a fulfilling experience for the person who's helping out.

“This is an event that will change your life. That's what happened to myself and my wife and my family. We got involved with it and it's so joyful and so happy that it will give you memories that you will take home with you for the day, and for a lifetime,” Bellinger said.

Volunteers will work four-hour shifts and are encouraged to contact Jill Speer at 309-888-2012 if they are interested in working either shift. Walk-up volunteers are also accepted on Saturday. Volunteers must be at least 10 years old and present a valid photo ID when they arrive on Saturday. In return for their time, volunteers will receive a Special Olympics Illinois volunteer T-shirt.
