Volunteers Start Early At Home Sweet Home

BLOOMINGTON - It was a busy and early morning for volunteers at Home Sweet Home Ministries.
BLOOMINGTON - It was a busy and early morning for volunteers at Home Sweet Home Ministries.

Cooks began to arrive before 6 a.m. at the Billy Shelper Center for a busy morning of meal preparation. Volunteers then packed up nearly 450 meals for distribution throughout the community. The meal consisted of ham, turkey and loads of labor-intensive side dishes.

They all agree the extra effort is worth it, to spread a little cheer.

"And they get a hot, good meal for today, because some people may not have a meal. So, they get a hot, full course meal and that makes me happy,” said Annie Williams, a cook for Home Sweet Home.

The Christmas meal at the Billy Shelper Center served more than 100 people.
