Washington Family Finds Shelter After Tornado

"I’m not going to go anywhere else but Washington.”
EAST PEORIA - It's hard to believe anyone would survive the tornado that barreling through Washington, but many did and now they’ve been tasked with finding somewhere to live while their homes are rebuilt.

We caught up with the Williams family at the Stoney Creek Inn. People have been setting donations outside of their room, which all five of them share. Glen Williams said they chose the inn because it's pet friendly. They rode out the storm with their 5-year-old boxer that they rescued years ago.

"He’s an important part of our lives so we wanted to bring him with us," Glen Williams said.

The dog is just one source of comfort during such a chaotic time.

"Just no normal thing in our life. Nothing that's going on that's normal. It's just all gone," Williams said.

"I mean I get up and I wonder, what outfit am I going to wear? What clothes am I going to wear," said his wife Sally.

Sally Glenn’s friends trucked a carload of donations down from Chicago. They had gathered everything from clothes to dog food. Sally said it's that outpouring of kindness that's helping her stay sane.

"What we have been through has been an absolute catastrophe and our lives have been changed forever and that is what is getting us through this absolute nightmare," she said.

While they go through much needed donations, this Williams family is also dealing with insurance and housing.

"Had to go to the doctors for blood pressure which I’ve never had so I think my blood pressure will now hopefully decrease quite a bit because that's the main thing, trying to find a place for your family to live," Glen Williams said.

Luckily, they've found somewhere to stay.

"It was for sale and they offered it up for rent because they were trying to help out the victims. They didn't have to do that they could have sold it."

When it's finally comes time to move somewhere permanent, Sally Williams said she knows which town it will be in.

"I’m not going to go anywhere else but Washington.”

We asked the Williams family what their Thanksgiving plans were. Glen said he hadn't thought about it yet, but he's sure someone in his family will take them in.
