Water Company Willing to Fund Portion of Reconstruction Project

PEORIA - The Illinois Water Company is willing to partially fund reconstruction of Main and University intersection in Peoria.
PEORIA - The Illinois Water Company is willing to partially fund reconstruction of Main and University intersection in Peoria.
The water company planned to spend $98,000 on road repairs after a water main break at the intersection in early September.
Thursday, the city discussed possible changes to the road during a meeting with residents. If the city chooses to move forward, the water company will contribute $98,000 toward the road project.
Karen Cotton, a company representative, says partnering with the city on one project makes more sense than doing two separate projects.
"That'd be a waste of resources and funds. So we're holding off on that permanent restoration, and those funds that we would have used for the water main break restoration can be put towards the project and what the city decides," Cotton said.
Cotton says water rates will not be used to fund the project. The company also plans to replace the water main, which was installed in the early 1900’s.
