WMBD/WYZZ-TV - WASHIGNTON, Ill. - Wayne McCalin is back in high school coaching for the first time in a dozen years.
The former Manual coach made is Champaign central debut at Washignton's Tournament of Champions over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The former Illinois and Kansas State assistant hasn't coached a high school game since leaving Peoria ion 2001.
"It can't feel like my old days at Manual. I'm told old for that. Much older!" said McClain. "But everything feels great. I feel like I have so much passion for the game. i have so much energy. Our kids are similar in a lot of ways. It's almost like deja vu."
McClain's Maroons went 2-2 in the season opening tournament in Washington.
