Wildlife Prairie Park Celebrates "Bald Eagle Day"

PEORIA COUNTY - The park has three bald eagles.
PEORIA COUNTY - A Peoria County park recognized one of our nation's biggest symbols.

Sunday, it was all about the bald eagle at Wildlife Prairie Park.

The park had activities for families throughout the day.

That included educational programs, a guided hike, and even a bird coloring contest.

The park wanted to teach people about the animal and how they became so significant so that they may never become endangered again.

"The bald eagles were at the point of becoming extinct," said park Naturalist Joe Hand. "They were down to 417 pair in the lower 48 States. We do need to preserve our ecosystem."

The park has three bald eagles.

One is used for education, and the other two are on display.
