Winter Storm Update

More snow expected through Sunday evening.
Many areas have reported anywhere from 2" to 6" of snow since Saturday afternoon.  The surge of heavy snow is now moving in from the southwest, providing areas east of the Illinois River with heavier snow rates, at times up to 1" per hour.  Most of central Illinois has now been included in a WINTER STORM WARNING until midnight.

             Winter Storm Warning Until 12am

Latest short range, hi-res models keep the snow flying through the afternoon into the early evening hours.  Heaviest snow bands will be just along and east of the Illinois River.  Here's a look at the timing:

                Future Radar 10am Sun

                Future Radar 12pm Sun

                Future Radar 3pm Sun

                Future Radar 6pm Sun

                Future Radar 9pm Sun

Snow totals will be impressive, especially to the east.

                Snow Tracker Forecast

Winds will pick up this afternoon so blowing and drifting snow will be a concern for the second half of Sunday.  The frigid air that has been well advertised all week long will move in Sunday night, where wind chills could fall between -20 to possibly as low as -40.  Wind chill warnings are in effect for Sunday night.
