Post 1111 of Peoria Heights honored unusable American flags by having a flag retirement ceremony at Tower Park. Veterans of all branches, the Boy Scouts, and the Girl Scouts all came to take part of the ceremony.
Crosspoint Community Church in Eureka gathered their Sunday school children during service to help stuff boxes for "Operation Christmas Child", a project by Samaritan's Purse Organization, that will be given to children in need across the world.
The Texas Roadhouse in East Peoria invited active and retired military members for a free lunch Sunday afternoon, in honor of their service to the county. They were able to chose from ten different entrees including a 6 ounce sirloin and two sides. More importantly, veterans were able to interact with others who have been through similar experiences.
Peoria residents had a chance to pedal their way through to support a good cause. Pedal for Parkinson's is a fundraising event that raises awareness for Parkinson's disease. This was hosted by the Central Illinois Parkinson's Support Group in an effort to educate the public about this condition through talks from health professionals.
