A new app will give Parents in Unit 5 the ability to track where their child’s bus is

MCLEAN COUNTY, Ill. — McLean County’s Unit 5 is working to improve communication with the timing of its school buses this year.

The district is working with the bus company First Student to alert parents, via an app, when their child’s bus is on the way. Parents will now receive a push notification telling them their child’s bus is five minutes away.

First Student General Manager, Chris Coyle, says other districts across the state are already using the app. He says the expansion to McLean County is part of a larger effort to get all schools using First Student busses to be on the app.

In addition to parents, schools will be able to monitor where the busses are at all times, so if there are any issues they will have access to the exact location.

At this time there’s not a definite start date for the app, but Coyle says it should be in place sometime this school year.
