Peoria City manager looks ahead to 2020 budget talks

PEORIA, Ill., — Peoria city manager Patrick Urich says a lot of work needs to be done to create the 2020 budget.

Last year, the city was forced to make cuts to resolve a multi-million dollar deficit.

Urich says the city is taking a new approach and looking to incorporate more public opinion.

The Budget Challenge Tool, coming out in July, is a website that will allow the community to provide input on proposed outcomes.

Leaders want you to give your thoughts on things like increased public safety pension costs and online sales dollars.
“We’re going to have city budget meetings, where we’re going to get out into the community,” Urich said. “The mayor has a business committee that he’s convening to look at this, so we’re going to try to hit a number of different fronts to educate people about our budget challenge.”

The city council also identified desired improvements for the city 15 years into the future. They are looking to create a safe, beautiful and growing city by the year 2032.
