Evening Anchor
Shelbey Roberts is a passionate writer and storyteller who has been developing her skills in broadcast journalism since 2011.
During her four years studying Communications at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Shelbey worked as an award-winning reporter and producer for the campus’ student-run television station, WOLV-TV. Since graduating, she has progressed in her news roles. From production at WMBF News in Myrtle Beach, SC, to reporting at FOX 28 News in Savannah, GA, Shelbey first came to Central Illinois in March 2018 as a morning show anchor for WMBD This Morning and Good Day Central Illinois. She is now an evening anchor for WMBD News at 5pm, 6pm and 10pm, as well as WYZZ News at 9:30pm.
In 2021, the Illinois Broadcasters Association awarded Shelbey “Best TV Anchor” Award for her dynamic personality and ability to engage viewers through storytelling and reporting. Shelbey also led the team that won the 2021 Illinois Broadcasters Association Award for “Best Multicultural Reach” and Regional Edward R. Murrow Award for “Excellence in Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” for her integral involvement as co-executive producer and co-host of “Together We Rise” — a WMBD/WYZZ town hall discussion about race relations in Central Illinois. In 2022, Shelbey also was recognized as one of Peoria Magazine’s “40 Leaders Under Forty” for her community volunteer efforts and solution-based journalism work.
During her time in news, Shelbey has covered a host of stories, most notably field-reporting during Hurricane Matthew, Hurricane Irma and the historic 2018 snowstorm in coastal Georgia.
In her spare time, Shelbey enjoys mentoring and tutoring Central Illinois’ youth and participating in community service projects as a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated.
While keeping with her signature smile, Shelbey enjoys taking the time to get to learn as much as she can about those around her. Feel free to reach out to Shelbey on Facebook and Twitter or email her at sroberts@wmbd.com.
