Troy E. Taylor joined the news team as an assignment editor in August 2023.
He spent 18 years as a copy editor and page designer at the Journal Star. More recently, he was an editor for print and digital publications in Dixon and Sterling and as a sports reporter and photographer in Kewanee. His journalism career also took him to South Carolina, Georgia, Texas, and Missouri.
Taylor was a finalist for the Robert M. Cole Award for school board coverage in 2023. He also was recognized for sports news coverage in Missouri in 1991. He’s written several articles on journalism best practices for The Editor.
Taylor graduated from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, Illinois Valley Community College in Oglesby and Putnam County High School in Granville.
He resides in Granville with his wife, Paula, an early childhood education student at Illinois State University. They participate in faith activities, support the local symphony and grill year-round. They have two adult children and one in high school.
Taylor is the co-author of two books on tabletop roleplaying games and is a founding contributor to the GnomeStew website.
