Police Explorers hold open house for youth interested in law enforcement

PEORIA, Ill.– Peoria Police Explorers held an open house 5:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Peoria Police Department.

The open house encouraged anyone between the ages of 14 though 20 to get some refreshments and learn about the the benefits of youth police exploring.

Administration Sergeant Dave Smith say the program is great for kids interested in law enforcement.

“Basically anything that is law enforcement related, they’re going to get a sampling of,” Smith said.

Through the program, police explorers will help with community out reach at local events, as well as practical exercises including building searches and ride alongs.

Those interested in joining the police explorers who were not able to attend the open house can get an application at the Peoria police department.
