New Flight To Destin Launches This Week

Good Day Central Illinois

Starting this May, Allegiant will offer two nonstop flights a week to Destin, Florida, expanding the number of cities that the Gen. Wayne A. Downing Peoria International Airport serves to more than any other Downstate Illinois airport.

The new seasonal flights begin May 24 and will operate twice weekly on 177-seat A320s from PIA to Destin-Fort Walton Beach Airport (VPS). Flight days, times and fares can be found at Allegiant.com.

“We’re very pleased that Allegiant has chosen Peoria to launch its new service to the Destin/Ft. Walton Beach area,” said Gene Olson, Director of Airports for the Metropolitan Airport Authority of Peoria. “We’ve been looking into this market for a while now and talking about it with members of our community. We know that there are a large number of Central Illinois travelers who go regularly to this part of the Florida Panhandle, and we’re proud to be able to offer them an option that gets them there a lot faster at a great price.”

With the addition of Destin, Peoria now has nonstop service to 12 cities on four airlines — more than any other Downstate Illinois airport.

“We’re grateful that Central Illinois so often chooses us as their preferred airport. We don’t take that for granted, and, fortunately, our airline partners continue to recognize that our location, amenities and service set us apart,” Olson added.

Allegiant, a Las Vegas-based low-cost leisure airline, started service at PIA in 2004 with flights to Las Vegas. Since then, they’ve added nonstop service to the following additional cities: Orlando/Sanford, Phoenix/Mesa, Punta Gorda and Tampa/St. Petersburg.

In addition to Allegiant’s six destinations, PIA also has nonstop service to: Charlotte, Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth on American Airlines; Atlanta, Detroit and Minneapolis on Delta Air Lines and Chicago on United Airlines.
