New Season Begins With New Rules For Football Practice

Active Life

PEORIA, Ill. — High school football practice began around the state Monday.

But it began without a lot of early morning practices and it started without double sessions. New Illinois High School Association rules prevent teams from have two-a-day practices until the weekend.

Teams are allowed one three-hour practice per day for the first five days of practice. And players aren’t allowed to wear full pads until Saturday.

With school starting in many area districts on Tuesday and Wednesday, most high school football coaches set afternoon practices all week to keep the schedule consistent with the school schedule. Games will begin Aug. 30.
