Originally from suburban Chicago, Kurt first walked through the doors of WMBD 31 as a college intern from Illinois State University in 1987. Three years later, he was hired as a fulltime reporter.
Through the years, Kurt's covered the Major League Baseball postseason, the NCAA Final Four, PGA and LPGA Tour events, NFL, NBA and NHL games along with NASCAR races. But he still contends his favorite assignments involve reporting stories about the local prep, college and professional athletes in central Illinois. He's been a finalist for the best downstate sportscast award presented by the Illinois Broadcasters Association every year since 1993, winning the honor in 1994, 2003 and 2004. He has also done play-by-play work for local broadcasts of Missouri Valley Conference men's and women's basketball games since 1993. Kurt has called the state tournament boys and girls basketball finals for the Illinois High School Association TV network since 2000.
Active in the community, Kurt serves on the Greater Peoria YMCA board, the Peoria Leadership Prayer Breakfast committee, and the area Operation Christmas Child committee. He has co-hosted the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Easter Seals telethons for WMBD 31. Kurt is a regular emcee at local charity golf events and awards luncheons, speaks to scores of civic and church groups, and frequently reads to elementary school students in area classrooms. An avid golfer, he is still searching for his first hole in one.
