PONTIAC, Ill.–A large fire began Saturday morning around 11:30 at Wright’s Furniture.
Fire fighters continued to battle the flames as it moved to Duffy’s Ambulance Service which is located at 202 E Howard St, Pontiac, IL 61764.
The fire department is still working to put out the flames, as of 1:53 p.m. on Saturday.
Pontiac Police Chief James Woolford says there’s no word of injuries at this time.
“I noticed there are fire departments from the entire area, I see Streator, Dwight, Lexington, many of the others around have come to assist. Whether they’re putting apparatus on scene or if they’re stage in preparation for relief. It’s definitely been quite an event and I a pretty significant fire,” Chief Woolford said.
Woolford said Route 116 is blocked off east and westbound.
Madison, Washington, Chicago, Mill, and Main St. are all blocked off in downtown Pontiac to be staging areas.
Woolford expects firefighters to continue battling the fire until late Saturday night.
Drivers are being re-routed and the entire downtown is shut down until further notice.
Wal-Mart and other organizations supplied food and water in front of St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
Fire departments from Streator, Lexington, Dwight, and other departments responded to the scene.
