Former Congressman Aaron Schock makes a rare public appearance in Peoria this afternoon, and talked with WMBD about his federal investigation over campaign spending.
A federal grand jury chose not to indict the Republican earlier this week after a year-long investigation.
Schock is not out of the woods yet. The U.S. Attorney could present the evidence to a new grand jury already sitting in Springfield.
But Schock said he’s had a lot of support from his friends in Peoria during this time.
Schock told us he can’t talk much about the investigation but is happy to see this hurdle cleared.
“It’s been a trying time, frankly, it’s been really frustrating as someone whose been always out spoken and easily accessible to my constituents and press not to be able to talk about things, so I’m looking forward to an opportunity in the near future to do so,” he said.
We also asked the former Congressman what he has been doing now since he resignation back in March of 2015 and if he has plans to run for office again.
He laughed and said not any time soon. “I, as you know, served in public office for 14 years, left at 33 years old, so Saturdays and Sundays have never been my own, and so I’ve enjoyed the time with friends and family.”
