The Illinois High School Association made it possible for children with disabilities to have access to sports like their able body peers.
The Peoria Wildcats played against the Lincolnway Special Recreation Association.
Tournament coordinator, Katie Van Cleve, said it’s important for disabled athletes to be included and given the opportunity to showcase their talents.
“We want our student-athletes to take the same life lessons able body athletes take right, we want them to learn decision making, teamwork, time management and all those things that will make them successful in whatever they choose to do as adults,” she said.
If you are interested in getting a child with a physical disability involved in adapted athletics, you can contact the Heart of Illinois Special Recreation Association.
