14-year-old arrested for murder in East Frye shooting

PEORIA, Ill. — A 16-year-old male is dead after a shooting on East Frye. 

The Peoria Police Department was called to 717 E. Frye on reports of a man who had been shot in a driveway. When officers arrived they found the victim and transported him to OSF St. Francis Medical Center. 

The victim was pronounced dead at 4:28 p.m. and his name is not being released at this time. Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood said an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday. 

At approximately 5:50 p.m. the suspect, a 14-year-old male, was taken into custody without incident in the 2300 block of North Delaware. The suspect was initially described as a male wearing a white hoodie, who ran away on foot. 

The juvenile was transported to the PPD and arrested for first degree murder.

One of the PPD’s K-9 units was on the scene. Officers were questioning neighbors for additional information.
