State lawmakers are considering a bill that would legalize the possession of a gun silencer. 42 states already have a similar law.
NRA members and gun supporters across the state are in favor of the passing senate bill 50
According toshooters who aren’t wearing protective gear can suffer severe hearing loss from as little as one gun shot.
Exposure to any noise greater than 140 decibels can permanently affect your hearing, the silencer would lower the decibels and effect it has on your ears.
Scott Tallyn owns Tallyn’s Tactical Solutions, he supports the bill, which would allow him to sell silencers.
“I think when people look at the amount of hearing loss that is being produced from being at the ranger, their ears are very susceptible to loud noises, and this what we’re trying to protect,” Tallyn said
The Illinois Council Against Handgun Violence believe the bill could create even more gun violence across the state.
A similar ball in 2016 to lift ban on silencers moved to the house where it was amended, the session ended before senators could act.
