The Normal Fire Department is getting a new facility on the east side of town.
Monday night the town council voted to grant the normal fire department a new building on the corner of Shepard rd. and Hershey rd.
According to the fire department this new building would allow first responders to reach homes and residences much quicker. They say that veterans parkway causes obstacles for trucks on their way to calls.
Even though the ordinance was passed town staff say they are still ways away from the actual construction of the building. City Manager, Pam Reece, will begin planning immediately and if all goes well she says we could see a building design by 2020.
