In an effort to keep local residents comfortable and safe during the hot summer months, Ameren Illinois is donating 100 window air conditioning units to the Peoria Citizens Committee for Economic Opportunity.
“Heat is really a health issue,” says Richard Mark, President of Ameren Illinois. “Many people, especially senior citizens, people with certain disabilities or on certain medications, hot days or being in the house can really jeopardize their health. We feel that giving these air conditioners out is a way of giving back to the community.”
Over the course of the summer, PCCEO will give away air conditioners to residents who meet income-eligibility requirements, also to seniors, veterans and those with disabilities.
“I just kind of took that opportunity and let the Lord guide me in the right way and show me where I needed help and here I am,” says Don Leroy Williams Jr.
For each air conditioner donated, Ameren Illinois is also providing one home energy efficiency kit containing led light bulbs, two sink aerators, a smart power strip and a low flow shower head.
