Cold weather may be keeping you indoors, but a few animals at the Peoria Zoo are feeling right at home.
A few species of animals at the Peoria Zoo are adapted to extreme cold. Tigers are allowed to stay outside even if temperatures drop below zero. Many animals were taken indoors, but the Takins are out today enjoying the cold.
“They’re from the Himalayan Mountains, so they don’t mind the cold. Normally, if it gets real windy, they’ll try to get out of the wind, but you can usually see them, you can see them out covered in snow sometimes,” said Yvonne Strode, Director of Peoria Zoo.
Zoo officials say it’s a little too cold for the lions, but the zebras come out sometimes in the winter.
