PEKIN, Ill.– A local recycling company has opened its brand new facility.
Area Recycling, which is owned by the PDC, held a ribbon cutting ceremony this morning at its Pekin location to commemorate the 8,000 square foot expansion which comes from a capital investment of over $3.5 million.
PDC Vice President Matt Coulter says this facility will fill a recycling void in the area.
“In Central Illinois there was only one other single-strain recycling processor, and now there’s two. With the amount of recycling that continues to increase throughout Central Illinois we decided there was a need to do so and we expanded this facility in Tazewell County,” Coulter said.
Coulter says this expansion added five new green jobs and that this facility has increased its recycling capacity by four times from the old facility.
The new location is at 14379 Illinois Route 29, South Pekin, IL 61554.
Coulter believes this facility will help improve the area’s environment.
“Recycling is not going away, it’s definitely a challenge right now. The markets are very turbulent, but we’re able to get through those with good suppliers and good vendors to get rid of our product. But recycling is going to continue for generations to come and we need to preserve the environment as much as possible,” Coulter said.
