Several school districts are facing substitute teacher shortages and the Regional Office of Education in Bloomington is trying to change that.
On Dec. 17 the ROE is holding a substitute teacher sign up day. Leaders say it will be a one stop shop for everything.
People looking to be substitutes will be able to apply and register for a short or long term license, get finger prints, and fill out any necessary paperwork all in one sitting.
“Our districts really need substitutes in their buildings,” said Victoria Padilla, Administrative Assistant to the Regional Superintendent. “Our office saw this as an opportunity, if we made everything easier for the subs and did it all in one place… we were hoping that, that will help get more subs into our districts.”
The fair will b from 2 to 6 p.m. at their location on front street, 200 W. Front Street Suite 500D. Event coordinators say the goal is to find qualified teachers in the area looking to help make a difference.
