Peoria’s warehouse district will have another option for fun in the upcoming months, an axe throwing bar will be opening its doors in the spring.

Guests will have the opportunity to throw an axe at Gone Axe Throwing on Washington Street. The activity is similar to darts.

Tuesday, Peoria City Council also approved a liquor license for the business. The owners said axe bars have become popular across the country.

“It’s not dangerous at all,” co-owner Matthew Ruder said. “There’s going to be an axe coach constantly with them, directing them on the proper way to throw the axe.”

Ruder added guests would only be throwing the axe about 15 feet. The joint will also have food. The owners told WMBD they expect their doors to be open by March 1.

Ruder and co-owner Sara Fickes also own Gone in 60 Escape Games in downtown Peoria.
