BARTONVILLE, Ill - As the kids start their summer, the Bartonville Fire Department teaches them how to be safe in the event of a fire.
First responders held a summer of safety event at the Bartonville park Saturday. They had fire hose for the kids to use along with the life flight helicopter.
The kids learned how to use a fire extinguisher to put out a small fire and how to get out of a burning building safely.
Fire Chief Mike Cheatham says, "We wanna make sure that they get a good, that they know how to get out of a burning building if there's smoke and if it's something as small a small fire, they know how to use a fire extinguisher to put it out and call the fire department also."
The chief also says that this is a good chance to bring the community together and have the kids meet their local firefighters.
