Better Business Bureau offers tips for end of the year charity giving

Local News

As the end of the year approaches, tax season is to follow.

At this time it is common for people to donate to charities. Charitable giving is a great way to get some money written off of your taxes, according to the Better Business Bureau.

The bureau said it is good to do research beforehand to avoid giving money to a fraudulent or made up cause.

“The Better Business Bureau would just encourage you to research that organization thoroughly to make sure that the money that you’re donating is going towards the cause that you really want it to and that the organization is effectively using those dollars to help the cause that they are representing,” said Jessica Tharp, CEO of Better Business Bureau.

Tharp also said that a way of knowing if an organization is legit, is if they don’t hesitate to give you their tax identification number.
