Big, yellow, and a whole lotta bus. Curious minds got behind the wheel of them Tuesday morning.
“It’s intimidating at first because the bus is so big and I’ve never driven a bus,” said April Dunkin, potential future bus driver.
But while driving a bus may seem a little scary, even WMBD’s Ali Reid got behind the wheel!
“Once you get used to it and all of the training you do here, I think I’ll be comfortable with it,” said Dunkin.
First Student wanted to reach out to people who may not consider driving a school bus. That’s what sparked the idea for “Big bus, No big deal.”
“You’re actually learning more than what it takes to operate a small airplane so our drivers are the safest on the road,” said Josh Goossen, Senior Location Manager for First Student.
They were ultimately there to squash any concerns.
“With the trainers they have here, the guy that rode on the bus with me – he was really good at explaining everything and answering all of my questions. Safety is number one here of course because you’re in a bus with children,” said Dunkin.
And if you can nail down the driving, all you need is a little bit of magic and a big smile to land the job.
“It takes the special person to make sure they drive that bus and ride the bus, monitor the bus properly throughout the day,” said Goossen.
If you’re interested in attending another one of these events… The next one will be held at First Student on July 13th.
