BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Bloomington high school is celebrating back to school with its annual freshmen celebration day. Only 9th grade and transfer students went to school on Monday.
The staff say it's their way of helping these students get acclimated to their new campus. The day consisted of short class periods and was filled with activities and relationship building.
Teachers say, even though the day is all about the new kids, it's their way of getting up to speed too.
"It really gives us a nice time to not have to immediately get into our lessons," said Ann Bessler, Bloomington High teacher. "It's for us to make a connection and to have that warmth where the teachers and students can get that mutual respect for one another."
The other high schoolers will be starting school later this week.
