BLOOMINGTON, Ill. — On Monday Bloomington city officials voted to rename the Mitsubishi Motorway. This comes after the Town of Normal voted to do so as well.
The proposed name change will have the road renamed to the Rivian Motorway, but before it becomes official, Twin City leaders are seeking the approval of the McLean County Board.
Bloomington City Manager Tim Gleason says the move to change the name reflects everything Rivian has brought to the area.
“Rivian is the real deal,” said Gleason. “Both communities have embraced what they were willing to bring to our communities, and I think it’s a way of us showing our respect to them, and the opportunities that they are providing.”
Rivian took over the former Mitsubishi plant in Normal, bringing in a number of desired jobs and production of electric vehicles.
