Bloomington Mayor reacts to State Farm cuts

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Local officials are still reacting to the news that State Farm is cutting nearly 900 jobs in the Twin Cities.

Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner said this is something both Bloomington and Normal saw coming. He said he doesn't believe it will affect the local economy.

"There's some residual impact upon our community, but the one thing that it also does underscore for us, that we've known, and that's part of our long-term comprehensive plan, is to continue to diversify our economy, so that we're not dependent upon one particular employer," said Bloomington Mayor Tari Renner.

Renner said State Farm has said it was going to restructure for years now, but that it plans to stay at 15,000 employees in Bloomington.
