PEORIA, Ill. — Peoria County board member Rachael Parker is set to succeed Steve Sonnemaker as Peoria County Clerk.

County officials will vote on the decision Thursday. Chairman Andrew Rand said he recommended Parker.

Her plan is to only serve until the 2020 election.

Sonnemaker passed away in mid-June after struggling with an illness. He was first elected to office in 2006 and was re-elected without opposition in 2018. He worked for Peoria County government for nearly four decades.

There are other changes coming to Peoria County; 10th judicial circuit judge Jodi Hoos was unanimously voted on to become the next county state’s attorney on Tuesday night at a board meeting.

Hoos is succeeding Jerry Brady, who also passed away in June.
