East Peoria man found dead in Illinois River identified

EAST PEORIA, Ill.–UPDATE: The Tazewell County Coroner confirms 61-year-old David Westphal was the man who drowned over the weekend.

Police officers were called around 11 a.m. Saturday about a body that was found face down in the river.

Tazewell County Coroner Charlie Hanley said Westphal, who is from East Peoria, was found dead in the Illinois River below the Murray Baker Bridge. Hanley says Westphal died from drowning.

The investigation is being carried out by East Peoria Police Department of Detectives.
