Man dead after morning shooting, marking Peoria’s 15th homicide

PEORIA Ill. — The Peoria Police Department is investigating the fifteenth Peoria County homicide of the year that happened early Monday.

Police responded to the 700 block of East Ravine just before 4 a.m. At the scene, officers found a 49-year-old man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Peoria County Coroner Jamie Harwood identified the man as Sam B. Causey Jr. of Peoria. Harwood said he was shot multiple times on the front and back sides of his body, and that he likely died within a matter of seconds.

There were no defensive wounds on Causey, and no evidence of close-range fire. The caliber of the weapon used is not being released at this time, pending continued investigation by the PPD.

Officials are still looking for a suspect. This incident remains under investigation. At this time, no arrests have been made in connection with this case.
