Canton man dies after driving into Illinois River in Havana, searching for second person

The Havana Police Department, along with the Mason County Sheriff’s Department and other area first responders, are searching for a missing person after a car drives into the Illinois River overnight. 

Mason County dispatch received a 911 call at 9:05 p.m.

Two people were reportedly in the car. 

Search and rescue teams, along with dive teams, responded to the area and located 35-year-old Aaron Anderson of Canton, Ill. 

He was pronounced dead at the scene by Mason County Coroner, Greg Cox. 

Havana Chief of Police, Jeremiah Hindahl said: “[The] investigation continues to determine the cause of the incident by Havana Police Department along with the Mason County Coroners’ office, Mason County Sheriff Department, and Illinois State Police.” 

The search for the remaining person is underway.
