The Caterpillar Foundation is focused on giving back to the community.
It’s donating $50,000 to the Peoria Area Food Bank.
“In 2016, of the food-related Caterpillar Foundation investments, 38% of the money stayed in the Greater Peoria-area, impacting 122,000 people,” said Michele Sullivan, president of the Caterpillar Foundation.
The money will be put toward a new freezer that costs a total of $100,000.
Other organizations such as Enterprise and Granger have also contributed to this project.
The food bank is thankful for the community support.
“If you had a refrigerator in your home and it was going out and that’s where you throw your food products to distribute to your family, it’s the same concept,” said Irene Weathersby, agency relations specialist at Peoria Area Food Bank. “This needs to be replaced. That is our goal, so we can can continue to function and sustain and feed the families that we serve.”
The Peoria Area Food Bank still needs about $32,000 to reach its goal.
