Raise your glass, celebrate International Beer Day at your favorite Twin Cities breweries

BLOOMINGTON-NORMAL, Ill. — Raise a glass and celebrate: Friday is International Beer Day.

“To anybody who hasn’t been to the Bloomington scene- there’s great breweries here, great things happening. Come check it out, make a day of it, stop at all of the breweries. It’s a good place to be,” said Jeff Miroz, Co-Owner of Keg Grove Brewing Company.

Keg Grove in Bloomington is a staple brewery in Central Illinois— boasting its “hangout” atmosphere.

“We have kids and families here all of the time; families will come in with a pizza and some LEGOs and go sit upstairs, and the kids will play and mom and dad will eat pizza, drink some beers, watch TV,” Miroz said. “It’s a good time.”

A good time – that’s probably why International Beer Day gained such popularity. Now, it’s growing larger every year, causing local breweries to constantly keep up.

“Right now we have distribution in 40 states, five export markets. We make a variety of different beers that have really gotten us a lot of national and international acclaim,” said Alex Maffei, Midwest Territory Sales Manager for Destihl Brewery.

That’s not the only attention Destihl Brewery in Normal is getting.

“The system that we have here is the largest system of its kind in the world for making beers. Very unique thing, cool to have in Central Illinois,” said Maffei.

And back in Bloomington, Lil Beaver Brewery is sure to keep you entertained.

“We are always willing to try something different so if you like your fruit beer, your sours, your stouts, your light beers we have it all and it’s changing regulary so if you come one week and you come the next week it might be different!” said Justin Bellas, Managing Partner for Lil Beaver.

So when you’re looking to get your drink on this weekend, just remember that BloNo has completely raised the “bar”- or brewery in this case!

“Every week people come in from out of state. It’s nice to have all of the breweries in Central Illinois. People make it a destination weekend or a couple days trip,” said Bellas.
