PEORIA, Ill. – Beer lovers may want to head down to the Peoria Riverfront Museum, because a bronze 12-foot Beer Stein will be on display this summer.
This year marks the 40th anniversary between Peoria and its sister city Freidrichshafen, Germany.
The Stein, a german token, was made to commemorate the partnership both city’s have had for this long.
The sculpture was commissioned by city leaders and was created by world renown artist Lonnie Stewart.
“You can see the Peoria skyline on one side of the Stein as well as very iconic structures that we all know in the City of Peoria,” said Mayor Jim Ardis. “On the reverse side, it has the same kind of etching of Friedrichshafen, the iconic landmarks in their city and things that make it very special.”
No taxpayer dollars were used to create it but donations are being accepted.
