WASHINGTON, D.C. — A man with ties to central Illinois played a vital role in 9/11 commemorations at the Pentagon Wednesday. President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump laid a wreath at the site where 184 people died 18 years ago.

The soldier helping them is Ethan Hatfield. Ethan attended high school in Peoria and his parents, Banu and Michael, own Zion Coffee Bar downtown.

Today I had the honor of laying a wreath in remembrance of those who were taken the morning of September 11 18 years ago. A humbling and motivating experience no doubt.

In a Facebook post, Ethan called the experience a “humbling and motivating” one.
