The Central Illinois Police Training Center hosted an open house Wednesday, highlighting The Vir-Tra 300 virtual simulator, a new training system that puts officers in immersive environments.
The simulator offers training for situations on domestic violence, to traffic stops, to live shooters.
Mike Oyler, coordinator at Central Illinois Police Training Center, said the simulations show officers there can be different solutions to scenarios, other than force
“How do they react in gender bias, or how do they react in a racial bias situation? We can hopefully identify some of those things and reduce the issues they have with individual officer,” said Oyler.
A grant through the Illinois Criminal Justice Authority made this system possible. CIPTC helps train 48 law enforcement departments in the tri-county area.
