BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – Central Illinois Regional Airport (CIRA) at Bloomington-Normal released its annual report for 2018.
This report includes the updates on several projects, a brief financial overview, data regarding growth in air service, marketing and communication efforts and upcoming projects for 2019.
It aims to inform the public of the current state of the airport. Recent changes include the adoption of a new tax levy that will result in an estimated property tax decrease of 15%, service on Frontier Airlines and a perfect FAA Part 139 Safety inspection.
It also includes statistics regarding air service growth. In 2018, the overall total passengers at CIRA increased 9.1%, passenger boarding (known as enplanements) increased 9.4% and online website traffic increased 9.7%.
CIRA offers daily airline service on Allegiant, American, Delta and Frontier Airlines, connecting travelers to locations like London, Paris, Dubai and Bangkok.
Other initiatives include upgrading the airport-wide free WiFi, ensuring zero flight delays due to construction, providing special send-offs for Make-A-Wish children and their families. New additions to the airport in 2019 include a Mother’s Lounge, a new public lounge and an art gallery featuring student art from Illinois State University.
