Charlie the therapy dog celebrates retirement with lots of love from senior living residents

BLOOMINGTON, Ill.–A beloved therapy dog is retiring after bringing smiles to people’s faces for ten years.

Charlie is known as a “Morale Therapist,” and has been helping people at Heritage Health Therapy and Senior Living in Bloomington.

He was found homeless in Mobile, Alabama following a storm and after six months of good care and medicine. He was able to bring joy to many lives, including Rosemary’s.

He’s a very unique doggy. He always knew just where he was going and he’d follow his leader all over the place. And anybody else who took care of him, he knew them. He didn’t get in anybody’s way, but he loved to put his little paws out in the hall there and relax.”

Rosemary has been at Heritage Health for three years, and has loved getting to see Charlie over the years. She says she will miss him very much.

“He was just almost like a human, in other words, for a little doggie,” Kelley said.

Charlie thoroughly enjoyed his retirement party on Friday and was joined by many people who were glad to pet him and wish him well.
