ELMWOOD, Ill. — With the fall season right around the corner, many families will be hitting local orchards just in time for apple harvest season.
After a harsh winter, late spring, and an influx of rain, many farmers across central Illinois worried if their crop would be ready in time.
Christ Orchard in Elmwood says, while they had to hire other staffers and keep up with the grounds more than in years past, they managed to stay on track.
“The maturity was just a little bit later,” said Kurt Christ, Owner of Christ Orchard. “But now with this heat, it’s progressing it very well. Nice sugar in the apples and they are coming into the maturity slot where they should be.”
